A target language is the language into which someone translates or interprets. The source language is the language of the original document or the principal speaker. When referring to countries, as discussed under cross cultural training, the source country is your home country and the target country is the country you are studying.
3. What is the difference between translators and interpreters?
Translation is a written conversion between two languages, while interpreting is an oral exchange. Some people possess both of these skills; nevertheless they are two separate specialties
4. What is the difference between consecutive and simultaneous interpretation?
There is a significant difference between these two fields.
When consecutive interpretation is being used, a rhythm must be established between the speaker and the interpreter to allow frequent pauses for the interpreter to speak. Consecutive interpreters interpret after the source speaker has finished their thought or their entire speech. They are often used in doctor’s appointments, court hearings, interviews and meetings.
Simultaneous interpreters have specialized training that allows them to interpret as the speaker talks, with no need of pauses. This type of interpreting requires very high skills and training. Headsets or other electronic transmitters are often used. This type of interpreting is utilized mainly at conferences and on guided tours. This is the type of interpreting used by the U.N.
5. Do you provide 24 hour interpreting?
