LTC Closes Communication Gap between US and China

LTC Closes Communication Gap between US and China

Language Training Center (LTC) recently took part in the US-China Advanced Technology Vehicle Summit, which brought together Chinese automakers and Indiana component manufacturers to focus on electronic and hybrid vehicles. This was the biggest group of Chinese to ever visit the United States for an automotive-focused trip. Throughout the event, LTC provided simultaneous interpreting services for over 200 attendees to allow both American and Chinese to clearly understand all material presented in the two day event.

Martin George, President of LTC, also acted as EMCEE for the event which included attendees such as Indianapolis Mayor, Greg Ballard, Indiana Governor, Mitch Daniels, and many other executives from automotive companies located in Indiana as well as China, including Jiang Zengwei, the Vice-Minister of Commerce.  George offered entertaining transitions in both Chinese and English between speeches, keeping all attendees fully interested and informed.

About This Event

Governor Mitch Daniels and the IEDC, when planning this event, were unsure exactly what to expect.  The plan was to share new ideas and information that would spur more foreign investment opportunities in Indiana and further explore the possibility of future business relationships.  However, the event proved to accomplish much more than a sharing of ideas, as over 100 Chinese automakers were in attendance, agreements were made, and contracts were signed.  Signed contracts included:

  • A joint venture agreement with Wanxiang Group, the largest auto parts producer in China, to provide advanced lithium-ion battery systems, which could more than double EnerDel’s job creation plans.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding between the China Investment Promotion Agency and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to strengthen future trade and economic development opportunities.
  • Several Strategic Cooperation Agreements between Cummins and two Chinese companies: Guangxi Liugong Machinery and Zhengzhou Yutong Group.
  • An agreement between the Energy Systems Network, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronics, and the Chinese Association of Automotive Manufacturers set the stage for future meetings -- future meetings such as the next Summit that will focus on the broader new energy technologies market and be held in Beijing.

Energy Systems Network and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronics sign an agreement.

Excited to have been able to close such a wide communication gap, LTC looks forward to continue working with both US and China automotive makers and manufacturers through use of their various language services to further develop these initiatives and therefore enhance Indiana’s market for greener, more environmentally friendly vehicles, as well as the job market.
